Sport
Volunteers
This
is the largest category of volunteers.
Approximately 3,500 people are needed to assist with
running the 50 Championships sports. Volunteers
are assigned to a particular sport, where they will
perform their assigned duties. Volunteers may be
assigned to work in registration, t-shirt distribution,
officiating (certified and non-certified), score
keeping, water distribution, set-up and clean-up.
Each sport may have its own special volunteer needs.
Volunteer
Supervisors
Stationed
at each venue, Volunteer Supervisors act as the liaison
between the State Sport Chairperson (tournament
director) and the Georgia Games Volunteer
Coordinator. Approximately 50 Volunteer
Supervisors schedule the volunteers for each sport and
maintain communication with these volunteers during the
Championships. They are responsible for working
with the State Sport Chair to organize the mandatory
training sessions prior to the Championships.
Volunteer Supervisors manage the distribution of
t-shirts, credentials and meal tickets for volunteers.
They also maintain the volunteer schedule during the
Championships by assuring that all volunteers have
signed in and out on schedule sheets.
G-Team
The
G-Team serves as the liaison between the Georgia Games
Operations Director and the State Sport Chairperson.
These members are responsible for providing logistical
assistance and making sure that needed equipment and
materials are provided. This is an important position at
each venue and approximately 50 volunteers are needed.
Venue
Support Check-In
The
Venue Support Check-in volunteer is the communications
link to the Championships Headquarters and Operations.
This volunteer will possess some means of communication
(radio, phone, cellular phone) and knowledge of how to
get in touch with key Georgia Games personnel. This
person confirms that essential tournament staff are
present before competition starts. They check-in sport
chairpersons, medical personnel, G-Team members and
Volunteer Supervisors.
Security
More
than 300 security volunteers are needed to assure that
all Georgia Games competition venues are safe and
orderly. This position's duties vary from crowd
control to parking.
Media/Results
Coordinators
These
volunteers are the link between the Championships event
and the Georgia Games Public Relations Director.
Media/Results Coordinators are assigned to every event.
Their duties are to gather results, interview
outstanding or unique athletes, assist the media at the
venue, interview sportsmanship award winners and report
on other newsworthy happenings at the venue. After
each event they report to the Media Center and Public
Relations Director, Jeff Seagraves. These
volunteers are vital to the statewide coverage of the
Georgia Games.
Medical
This
group of medical doctors, physical therapists, athletic
trainers and other medical personnel ensure the safety
and well-being of Georgia Games athletes and volunteers.
Many events of the Georgia Games can not begin until the
proper medical staff is on-site.
Massage
More
than 150 massage therapists are needed at the
Championships to add a relaxing touch to all events.
Therapists help athletes relax and work out cramps after
competition.
Merchandising
Even
though every volunteer and athlete receives a free
T-shirt, the merchandising team is out at almost every
venue with other Georgia Games merchandise. This team
sells hats, T-shirts, sweatshirts, shorts and other
novelty items with the Georgia Games logo. A crew of 50
volunteers are needed to help set up attractive displays
and sell official Games merchandise.
Hospitality
Hospitality
volunteers are responsible for making certain that a
meal has been delivered for each volunteer.
Several teams of hospitality volunteers will deliver
volunteer meals to the competitions venues.
Additionally, they provide these services for VIPs and
sponsors who attend the Championships.
Communications
Using
ham radios and other means of communication,
Communications volunteers keep all events in constant
contact with the Georgia Games headquarters.
Mascot
Spike,
the Georgia Games mascot, makes appearances throughout
the year at schools, sporting events and other special
events. Volunteers are needed to play the part of
Spike and to be an escort. Spike is always teamed
up with an escort to act as a translator.
Office
Assistants
During
the months and days leading up to the Championships
these volunteers mail out thousands of entry forms,
answer hundreds of phone calls and enter thousands of
names into the Games athlete and volunteer databases.
These volunteers help the Georgia Games office run
smoothly and productively on a year-round basis.
