The Benefits of Walking
Physical
inactivity is a major risk factor for heart disease. One of the easiest
ways to increase your level of physical activity is by walking. It
requires no special equipment other than a good pair of walking shoes.
It can be done outdoors in good weather and indoors in inclement
weather. You can start walking 10 minutes at a time, working your way up
to 30 minutes a day at least 3 to 5 times a week, and at a
moderate-intensity, you can realize many short- and long-term benefits.
Getting
started is easy! Walk for 10 minutes three times a day, or 30 minutes at
a time, whatever your schedule permits. Here are some tips to make it
more fun:
Go to a park and walk the footpaths and trails and enjoy the beauty around you.
